I totally get the struggle of dealing with pet hair, especially when you have multiple cats. One of the best air purifiers I’ve found for pet hair and dander is the LEVOIT Core 300. It’s super affordable, has a good HEPA filter that captures pet hair and dander, and works well for spaces up to around 200 sq ft. For your size of house, you might need a couple of them for different rooms, but they’re pretty efficient and quiet...

Levoit Core 300 in our main area (not a big space. Just a 1br apartment). We have a Levoit Mini in the bedroom. We bought that one first to see if there was actually a tangible difference in the air before spending more money. Within just a few hours, we noticed a pretty big difference so we got the slightly bigger one for the main area. Will probably upgrade when we eventually get a bigger space but for now, this feels like plenty.

Costco.com. Winix C909. Comes with 2 years of filters. Was in the same position as you last month. So far it’s great. We move it to the room we are spending the most time in (typically living room in the day, bedroom at night). Its auto mode is simple and it’s basically plug it in and walk away.

Why not do a Winix C909 for $160 and 2 Refurbished Winix C545’s for $60/each? That’d put me around $300 with tax. Why recommend a T500 when you don’t believe in cylinder purifiers? Also, this sub isn’t run by reps from Winix right? 😬

Coway purifiers are top notch. i have an AirMega 400 model in the room where we keep our cat litter boxes. it's built like a tank and after a year, it still showed the filters at maybe 75% remaining. i replaced them anyway, as i know the carbon pellets were spent without a doubt, and wanted to combat litter box smells... but the filters were still in fine shape. Coway filters are like $80, but i found a review / test of third-party filters that didn't have any appreciable difference for $30. they make a bunch of different sized purifiers for different room sizes, so see what suits your sit.

The winix 5510 (i have the old version 5500-2) is generally regarded well for bedrooms. You could also try the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH. You'll need to replace the filters every year. If you can wait until black friday these filters usually go on sale then along with the extra hepa filter replacements.

Generally viruses.I think that's what he's referring to. As for the "new purifiers are silent as hell", u/RodoKiD , in order for a H13 to be silent as hell, it needs to underperform way way worse than a H12. I'm 100% sure that "sleep mode" or speed 1 of a H12 is having a substantial CADR increase than the same speeds on a H13, since those speeds favors quietness. But I also agree in a way with that statement since I've seen certain H13 purifiers such as Coway Airmega 400 with a pretty good turbo speed dB-wise, given its CADR. That unit is a very high quality HEPA H13 unit. Could use lower dB at sleep mode but thats the nature of H13 showing its hands there.

Because your ceilings are higher than 8 ft., we need to calculate by volume first and then divide by 8 for the "adjusted" purifier coverage rating. The bedroom has an adjusted purifier coverage rating of 437.5 sq. ft. Minimum CADRs would be 292 CFM. Not sure how big your living room is, as you didn't list its dimensions. Let's just say it's 450 sq. ft. with a 10 ft. ceiling. Adjusted purifier coverage rating is 562.5 sq. ft. Minimum CADRs needed are 375 CFM. I normally recommend Coway. The bigger units (Coway Airmega 400 and Coway Airmega ProX) are currently not on sale directly from Coway. And I definitely *don't* recommend buying either model at full price. Both the Airmega 400 and Airmega ProX are cheaper at Sylvane for the moment. **Alternatives** * Bedroom: Levoit EverestAir-P (from the VeSync Store) * Living Room: Levoit EverestAir-P \+ Levoit Vital 200S-P The EverestAir-P has a top Smoke CADR of 354 CFM. So if your living room is roughly the equivalent of 562.5 sq. ft. or larger, you would need the Vital 200S-P to meet minimum CADRs.

Yeah totally get the frustration, the air purifier rabbit hole can be overwhelming when you just want a simple answer. For your situation (1200 sqft, dog, three kids), here's my honest take: **Budget pick:** The AEOCKY I've been testing might actually work well for you. It's running about $95 right now for Black Friday, handles pet dander pretty well, and the filters last way longer than most (comes with washable pre-filters you can just rinse off instead of constantly buying replacements). That matters when you've got kids and a dog making messes. I wrote up my experience with it here if you want the real-world take instead of spec sheets. **The better-known option:** Honestly, Levoit Core 400S gets recommended a lot for a reason. It's around $180-200, solid reputation, app control if that matters to you. The Coway Airmega 400 is great too but pushes closer to $400. For your layout, I'd probably do two smaller units (one in the main living area, one in the bedroom hallway) rather than one massive one, especially since doors stay open. Air purifiers work best when they're in the room you're actually in. The AEOCKY would let you grab two units for under $200 total, which is less than one "premium" unit. But if you want the peace of mind of a well-known brand, can't go wrong with Levoit either. Hope that helps cut through the noise!

The amount that a purifier can do to reduce fur is somewhat limited. It can pull suspended hair from the air in relatively close proximity to the unit, but again this impact is somewhat limited. It can do a ton for dander and other smaller particulates, however. Multiple medium units at different locations throughout the house will have a more significant impact than a single, larger one. In a 1300 square foot home for your situation, I would recommend the Winix 5500-2 or AM80 (same unit, different exterior). It is a good choice as it's inexpensive and does everything really well, and operating costs are very reasonable. Further, it has a mesh screen prefilter that is easy to access and clean, which prolongs the life of the HEPA filter and makes it very simple to remove the hair that the unit does pick up. These units are designed for up to 360 square feet for their optimal performance. Three of these positioned in different spaces throughout the house would make a huge difference (and much more so than a single, larger unit.) Alternatively, if you are looking for something less expensive, the Corsi-Rosenthal Box, which is a DIY purifier made from box fans + higher efficiency MERV furnace filters, are excellent at particulate filtration as they can move tons of air. You could easily make three of these for under $200. (However, these do not have the convenience of a reusable prefilter that is easy to access and clean, and they can be on the noisier side of things.)

Corsi box is where it's at. Ours is with 2'x4' filters. Sits in the foyer with high 2nd story ceilings and open to formal living, dining, and kitchen (easily 2k+ sqft), been on 24-7 for 4 years.

What about building a Corsi-Rosenthal Box air filter and automating the box fan with a smart outlet or if you want to go variable speed wire up a fan style switch usually sold for ceiling fans.

This is true. Web-search for a "Corsi-Rosenthal box." Actually more effective than most commercial air purifiers because it moves much more air. It's simply several MIRV-13 furnace filters taped to a cheap fan.

You can also build a modified corsi rosenthal box with one 20x20x 4” filter taped to the back of the fan- it’s nearly as efficient as the standard kind but doesn’t take up as much space and is slightly cheaper to build. I get my filters from filterbuy.com

I have been using both the Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 and the Coway Airmega 150 for a few months now. Best ones in the market rn under ₹20k. Although there's not much fancy stuff on there, the Airmega is just superior when it comes to air purifying. It has a HEPA filter and a separate air filter as well. Downside is no AQI display. (just an LED indicator) The Xiaomi on the other hand has a lot of features. App Control - Alexa compatible - PM2.5 AQI/Temp./Humidity Sensor. It also tells you how much longer the filter will last. It comes with its own proprietary "HEPA certified" filter that you can buy only on mi.com; which is kind of a bummer. But does the job. But only 60-70% as good as the Airmega when it comes to air purifying. TLDR: \- Coway Airmega 150 is the best functionality wise \[Prices are a little hiked up rn\] \- Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4 is feature packed, if it matters to you. FYI, Both help keep the AQI under 10 at all times when the windows and doors are fully closed. For perspective, I live around the vadapalani area right next to the metro construction. Hope this helps :)

I am using Mi and Coway purifiers for last 5 years. AQI in chennai is getting worse every year, I can clearly see it from, how quickly I have to replace the filters. Both are equally good. If you want fancy features get Mi , if not get Coway. Also one advantage with Coway it has a pre-filter which can be removed and washed. The Hepa filter has to be replaced once it reaches 0% , the cost for MI filter used to be 2000 rs, now its 3000. I am worried pollution is going to cause long term health issues to all of us. Something has to be done.

I'm have the following purifiers for my family of 5. Phillips 2887 and 1215. Mi Purifiers 2, 3 and 4. Coway Airmega 150 and Qubo 1000C. Not sure about replacing filters every 3 months. We clean it once a fortnight or month depending on the pollution. Mi and Qubo give filter replacement alarms. They say 9000 hours to 15000 hours. So not sure how you came up with 3 months. 90 days x 24 hours is about 2k hours of filter use only. I've placed the Phillips 1215 in the kitchen to reduce pollution in the rest of the house. I didn't think much about Co2 but will see if I can monitor. I counter room cooling with a oil based heater since it doesn't alter the room humidity unlike convection based heaters.

\+1 Both Coway and Xiaomi is good for high-pollution places. Coway purifiers are often less noisy, easy filter replacement, and an amazing value for money product with a good cleaning rate like Coway 250. High CADR of 400+ m³/hr. Overall, great balance of performance and low noise (as low as 22 dB). On the other hand, for a cheaper option and also quick air purification, you have Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier 4. Good value for money for those living in high-pollution places with features such as app control, smart scheduling, and 360-degree air intake. High CADR 397 m³/hr Focus needs to be on Coway's models for the long-term, as their 1.5–2 year filter life will save you significant money over five years compared to models with 6-month filter lifecycles.

Go with the Levoit 400S! I've been using air purifiers in my house for at least 15 years now. Every room has one, and it has kept me from having to really dust. Being a single father for most of those years, until my kid graduated and moved out a couple of years ago, not having to do a lot of dusting is a high priority for me... All of them are way oversized for what I need, since I have large smart ones in each bedroom that claim the ability to support like 1500 square feet. But I like the smart, wifi connected ones. I also like the ones with the auto sensing feature so they can adjust their own speeds as needed. So I went for features rather than sizing correctly for each room. Thus, when it was time to get another, and I looked around, this seemed to be a good fit without getting models that cost way too much. I have an Air+Health, and an Aeris, both which are like 3 or 4 times as expensive. And neither of which has ever justified that cost in my experience. Especially now that Aeris was bought out by iRobot and the app won't even work anymore... One more reason to go this route. I got this one a day before I also grabbed a Core 200S for my bathroom - the only one I have that is not capable of auto sensing. This one is dead silent on auto. On speed 1 of 4, it's a very quiet fan noise, even from 5 feet away, which is how far it is from my dining table chair. 2 is not much worse, and even 3 is more than acceptable. 3 sounds like many other ones I've seen would be at a lower setting. 4, of course, is loud, but again, it's loud compared to itself. Compared to, say, my Aeris, Winix, or my Air+Health purifiers, this one has the least obnoxious sound level on the highest setting. I like the ability to schedule things. I let it run at a higher level at night while I sleep since the noise will not bother me at the total opposite end of the house. And even if I did her it, at that point it would be white noise, which I often sleep to anyway due to obnoxious neighbors. The auto setting seems to be spot on with the other ones I have that cost three or four times as much as this. I really never notice it going up - until I cook burgers on the stove. Doesn't matter what else I do with ground beef, tacos or anything else, nothing cares. I cook hamburgers? Suddenly the purifiers in my kitchen, dining room, and great room (big open concept here so these three rooms are one large room that's half of my house) all spin up, show red and are doing their best to cope with whatever it is that my hamburger cooking is doing to my poor indoor air quality. And this one does not lag behind or anything. So you're not getting a lesser quality detection on this one simply because you are not spending such a ridiculous amount. My only real complaint is that the display is so recessed on the top. So if you're sitting across the room you have absolutely NO visible sign of status. And if it's on auto you can't even tell if it's turned on or not since it's so quiet if it isn't sensing something in the air and cranking up the air filtering. But the app works, unlike the Aeris ones now, and the unit is unobtrusive unless you REALLY make an effort. For the price, you can't beat it. And for the price, it beats ones that cost several times its cost.

1) Ask r/airpurifiers 2) Alen is really the only true BIFL brand because they offer a lifetime warranty for as long as you buy genuine Alen filters. Plus the filters last a long time too and they are incredibly quiet. Coway and Winix are good too just not at the level Alen is. **Avoid Dyson, blueair and Levoit. They’re junk.** 3) As for sizing, this part is important: most manufacturers advertise crazy sqft numbers (1,000sqft+ for a tiny tabletop unit) just know that most of the time this is disclaimed by stating it can filter all the air in a 1ksqft room ONE TIME per hour. If you actually want to filter your air, industry standard is FOUR times per hour. So in reality, that 1ksqft unit is really only good for a 250sqft room **on full blast** which is usually loud. What kind of space are you trying to purify? An Alen 45i or 75i is great for living rooms and open spaces, then A flex or 25i bedrooms would work well.

I currently have 2 Winix and 1 germ guardian. They are both good but if I had to choose I would go with the Winix. The pre-filter does a great job collecting debris and dust which I think helps the HEPA last longer. I changed my filters twice a year and I use the genuine filter.

Winix has always been great in our home. We run 3 of them and clean the filter by blowing them out and vacuuming more often than replacing them. Great value and efficiency.

Ditto on having two Winix. I highly highly recommend. The pre-filter is extremely effective and helps the filter last a very long time. I originally purchased to use during wildfire season, and now it’s just something I keep on at all times. I’ve had mine for five years now and I’ve never had an issue. That being said, an engineer friend that works in air quality recommended the Coway purifier and used that in their home. I think both are great options.

Shark is my favorite vacuum brand. If OP is willing to buy refurbished: Woot is Amazon’s clearance/refurb outlet and has good deals: Refurbished Shark robot vac/mop: $90 these can be scheduled to run while you sleep or while you’re out on a walk with the dog—I promise these things pay for themselves by helping you keep up on pet hair by doing a room or two every day. I would NOT let it run with the dog in the house alone, my old Roomba bears Malinois battle scars but my shark ones are quieter and didn’t bother my girl as much. One of those and either: Refurbished shark liftaway for $90 OR a Refurbished Shark stick vac for $~~115~~150 That’s about $50-100 leftover for a decent HEPA filter/purifier. Edit: the stick vac is now $150–it must’ve been on a brief sale earlier

I also recommend Shark! I got the Shark Startos IZ840H, it’s extremely powerful comparing to other cordless vacuums (at least those I was familiar with) and doing a great job on both floors and carpets. It’s also designed for dealing with pet hair and I can testify it definitely is! Life saver

I own a litter robot and can see that the visible litter is clean, so the tray isn't full yet, I wouldn't say they aren't cleaning the litter. Even though it cycles the litter down into a bag underneath, it still creates smell. They sell a couple of things that could reduce the smell, like carbon filters and an air freshener thing you can clip onto it somewhere. I'm not sure where the air freshener goes, but remember seeing it when I was buying one, I do have the carbon filters, though. They just slide into a slot in the litter collection tub that pulls out at the bottom. Maybe you could try recommending those to your friend since the thing appears to be in the living room.

If the cat’s poop smells THAT bad with a litter robot, that cat needs to see a vet. It could have worms, could be reacting to cheap food, etc. A sprinkle of aquarium charcoal in the drawer and bonnet will help if he’s just using cheap litter

We have the Dyson V8 Origin and it’s perfect for shed cleanup. We found it on sale at Target about a month ago for $299 or so.

Yeah I also have Dyson, can recommend it! They are a bit pricier but if you get one on a deal is worth it. I also use one of the Romba robots for in between.

I bought a used ($50)Kirby off marketplace and man when I compare it to the Dyson Animal ball thing we got as a Christmas gift 2 years ago it blows that thing out of the water. I don’t have any air purifier recommendations. Beautiful pupper.
